With Jesus, it is possible to forgive!
Do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.
In this verse there are three calls to action for us: do good, bless and pray. When it comes to forgiving someone, we have to incorporate all three things into action.
How do we know if we have genuinely forgiven someone for hurting us? By asking God to bless their lives. The thing about people who hurt others, it’s often because they themselves were hurt and need grace from God to heal the wounds of their heart.
It took a long time for me to come to a point where I could forgive the man who sexually abused me. But it wasn’t until I prayed for him, did I realize that my healing had begun. When we open up our hearts, and allow God to work away at us through forgiveness, He has the opportunity to transform us.
You might say to me, “Yeah, but you don’t know how I was hurt. I can’t forgive them.” No, I might not know how you were hurt, and I’m sorry that you had to ever experience this type of pain. But something that I do know about, is how an unforgiving heart hold on to pain so much more. Today, I want you to take the steps necessary to forgive. Pray for those who hurt you, and ask God to bless their lives. May God transform your heart in this way too.
With Jesus, it is possible to forgive! Ask Him for the grace to be able to forgive and don’t be afraid!
Praying for you all.
