Who am I?
"He asked them, 'But who do you say that I am?'" - Mark 8:29
Happy Monday Dear Sisters!
Last week I was reflecting on this Gospel reading and this question that Jesus asks his disciples stood in my heart for a moment...
Who do you say that I am?
I took it to prayer and started to think: Who do I say God is for me? Do I create an image of who I want him to be or do I let him be who he is?
Many times I started to see that God was who I wanted him to be. If I needed something or if something wasn't going as planned, I wanted God to be that fixer for me. I wanted him to be the one to turn things back to how I wanted them to be, how I had it figured out or envisioned in my mind.
Do you ever have those moments when you feel like someone already has this image of you way before you give them a chance to show them who you are or before they actually get to know you? Many times we do this with our own friends or relationships where we have this ideal that we place on the other person that is either this perfect image we want them to be, or a past image that we have experienced through hurt.
Do you ever feel like you do the same thing to God?
My dear sisters, I encourage you today to sit with this question...who do you say that I am?...and answer in your heart who is God for you? Do you let him be Lord of your life and let him be who he is...or do you create an image of who you would like him to be in your life?
Love and prayers, -Sandra
