Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God

Someone in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.” He replied to him, “Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?” Then he said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.”

- LK 12:13-16

It’s so easy to get caught up in the desire for newness, the newest gadgets, the newest brand names, and the newest devices. It’s like we are always on the hunt for the next new thing. And to top it all off, we are constantly being bombarded in media and in entertainment with the newness of it all. Whether you have to have the newest iPhone or the newest watch, or the brand new car. Whatever it is in your life that grabs your attention, it’s hard not to fall for the desire of wanting something new.

For a moment, let us consider what Christ has asked of us: “Guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.”

I want you to think about something. If your life ended today and you didn’t get that newest iPhone or car, would it matter? No it wouldn’t. Our materialistic possessions are a momentary thing. They do not bring us true joy.

What brings us true joy is Christ. He is the one who is going to fulfill our greatest desires. He is always going to be new to us, because He can never be replace by “the next best thing”. HE IS IT! He is the BEST thing!

Think about your life and all the things you have. And now reflect on how many good deeds you did this week? Does it equal to your materialistic items? Do we have more earthly goods then acts of good deeds? If you were to die tomorrow, and you stand in front of God, would your hands be empty?

Instead of looking for materialist goods, I want to encourage you to do good. That will be the most important thing, so that when you stand in front of God, your hands wont be empty. They will be filled with all of the good that you have done here on earth.

Leave behind the earthly goods, and search for the good that you can do for Christ. Love your neighbors, show them kindness by mowing their lawn, or helping them with their groceries. Love your enemies, pray for all those who have hurt you, smile at them and maybe change their hearts. Love the poor, go out to your nearest homeless shelter and offer your time. Love the sick, visit that elderly woman who can’t get out of bed or with the children in the hospitals.

Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. He is what you desire, and He will fill the desires of your heart. Search for the heavenly goods and graces.

Praying for you all.

In Christ,
