What defines me?

I was recently talking with a grade 10 girl who was opening up about her worries about how her family views her, friends view her, and if she is still a good person because of things she has done.

I told her, "You are not defined by any of that, you know that right?"

"So what defines me?"

This question is one that has haunted not just her, but many of us. I am pretty confident to say that at some point in our lives we ALL have asked this question.

What defines me?

I love going back to St. John Paul II's quote when he approached this same question. He says, "we are not the sum of our weaknesses and failures, we are the sum of the Father's love for us."

Do you believe this? In the depths of your heart...are you able to take this as a truth?

The world gives us a million different things that define us. Our physicality, what we wear, what we post, our make-up, our relationship status, our education, our successes...and the list goes on.

The problem with all of those is...they are unrealistic and always changing.

Our identity is something so innate, something that is UNCHANGING regardless where we are and what we have been through.

You are a Daughter of a King. You are defined by his incredible love for you. Are you ready to throw away all the false identities and ideals, and discover who you truly are?

Walking Together, Sandra
