The Three Hail Marys Novena
The following novena is a little different than the ones that we looked at earlier this week as it doesn’t have a specified time frame. It is called The Three Hail Marys Novena or The Efficacious Three Hail Mary Novena.
Saying three Hail Marys has been practiced by saints such as St. Anthony of Padua, St. Leonard of Port-Maurice and St. Alphonsus of Liguori.
We pray this novena everyday to honor and reflect upon Mary’s power, Mary’s wisdom, and Mary’s mercy, all gifts, which have been given to her by Our Father.
The format to the novena is as follows: 1. prayer for strength (with our specific intention) 2. Hail Mary 3. prayer for wisdom 4. Hail Mary 5. prayer for mercy 6. Hail Mary. This is to be said continuously, without end as it is a “perpetual novena” (no set end time). It is to become part of our lives.
We may come across variations of this novena, however the purpose and the overall format remain the same. In the version provided below, we pray specifically for purity, strength, guidance, humility, and remorse, amongst other things.
Despite the less commonly used language in the prayers of this novena, when we take the time to listen to the words through which we pray, it is a wonderful opportunity for us to look to Mary as our biggest role model. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the current condition of our soul.Through it, we reach out for strength to fight life’s spiritual battlefield, for knowledge of and ability to follow God’s will, and for genuine remorse over our wrongdoings.
Have you prayed through this novena yet? What has your experience been?
