The greatest love story will always be the one you have with our Lord God
Over the past week, I have been reflecting on my season of singleness. I had a big realization at mass last week after hearing the gospel that I still have a lot of work on in this current state of my life.
The gospel reading talked about putting things above having a relationship with Christ; "No one who prefers father or mother to me is worthy of me. No one who prefers son or daughter to me is worthy of me." (Matthew !0:37) As I was sitting there, I began reflecting on what I was putting before God. And as I thought about it, I began to realize that I may have created "relationships" as an idol in my life.
When we are in a season of singleness, it's so easy to romanticize our future, our hopes and dreams. We long for the day when we meet our future spouse. But to what point does this become idolizing? I think this takes a lot of self reflecting.
I know for myself, that this is an issue if I long to have more of a relationship with another person than to have one with God. I realized that God is still allowing this time of singleness to happen in my life so that I may fall in love with Him, first and foremost.
My single ladies, the greatest love story will always be the one you have with our Lord God! He is the one who will always actively pursue your heart and want to give you all of your hearts desires. Every other relationship will fall short to this one. We must love God first, to be able to truly love another.
Today, I really want you to reflect on your relationship with God. Have your created idols in your life? Is there something that is far more important to you than your relationship with God? That can be a spouse, a child, a lifestyle, social media etc. Look for the things that you are prioritizing before God.
Praying for you.
