The desires that are in our hearts
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked. Who can know it? - Jeremiah 17:9
The bible tells us straight forward that not all of our desires are going to be good. There are those desires that we long for that are bad, that won't do anything good for our souls.
If we look at this world today, it's constantly telling us to follow our desires. We even have developed a culture of "You do you!", in which we mean: do whatever pleases you. But we know that this can be routed in sin, when we fill our lives with sexual gratification, shopping addictions, gluttony and so much more.
But if we lean on God, and allow Him to be our heart's desire, everything else gets set into accord. Jeremiah continues with: " I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruits of his doings." When we follow a heart that is set on God, we know that God sees that. He will give the desires that are in our hearts, because those are also His desires.
Today, I want you to reflect on what desires have you placed in your heart? What is the most important thing to you? Is it to love God whole heartedly and serve Him? Or is it to find gratification from this world?
