That purity, that innocence they hold is what we all need...

Happy Feast of the Holy Innocents!

Today the church remembers a very tragic day. It was the day Herod ordered all the baby boys to be slaughtered and killed, with the hope of killing the new born Messiah.

I was brought back to a moment I shared with my Goddaughter when she was just a few months old. I was holding her in my arms as she was slowly dozing off to sleep. So pure, so at peace, so beautiful. There was a lot sitting on my heart at that time, a lot that I was struggling with. As I was singing to her, I stopped for a moment...and asked her to pray for me. I know she couldn't hear or understand anything in that moment, so I reached out to my Guardian Angel to ask her Guardian Angel to bring my intention to our Lord.

I feel sometimes we underestimate the power of a child's prayer. In that moment, especially shortly after her Baptism, she was in the purest form that she could ever be on this earth. Completely wiped from original sin, and not a stain of earthy sin on her heart yet. That purity that children hold, there is power in that purity.

There is a reason why Christ says "unless [we] turn and become like children, [we] will not enter the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 18:3). That purity, that innocence they hold is what we all need to be striving for to reach Heaven. There is so much power in that.

I encourage you to have that same moment. Whether it is with your own child, a niece or nephew, a Godchild, a friend's child, or a child that is already united with Our Lord in Heaven. Ask for their prayers today in whatever intention you hold in your heart.

There is beauty and power in the purity of a child's prayer.

Walking Together,
