So much power

Updated: May 7

I love playing this game with my students where I give them a scenario and they need to figure out which gift of the Holy Spirit will help them make the right decision. Sometimes students will know right away which gift we need, sometimes they feel stuck between two gifts that could be equally helpful, and sometimes they are just completely stuck and don't know which one to choose.

In those moments I am always brought back to this quote from Romans:

"Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God." (Romans 8:26-27)

Many times I will sit down to prayer and feel like I have so many things I want to bring to Our Lord but I have no idea what help or graces to ask for. This is where the Holy Spirit comes in.

Yesterday we celebrated Pentecost, the birth of the Church. The moment the Holy Spirit came down onto the Apostles like flames and instantly they went out and spread the word to everyone they met. I sometimes wonder what the Apostles were thinking moments before the Spirit came. It's safe to say they were afraid, seeing as they were hiding, but I wonder if they too were confused and didn't know what to ask God for.

There will be situations when we will know that we need to gift of knowledge or understanding to help us out, but there will also be moments when we don't know. What we can always know for sure is that the Holy Spirit, in a way, takes the pressure off of us from feeling like we have to always have that figured out. He knows what gift and grace we need most, all He is waiting for is for us to call out to Him.

Come Holy Spirit!

Three simple words that hold so much power.

My dear ladies, I encourage you this week to try them out. When you are faced with a difficult situation don't waste time trying to figure out what you need. Call out and entrust that the Holy Spirit will send down the exact gifts and graces you need most.
