Rest and Relax
When it comes to giving myself time to rest, I am the worst. Even though being a potato is my favourite thing to do, I rarely have the time because my life sometimes feels like a hamster wheel.
Monday was a holiday for those who live in North America. And when I woke up that morning, I had planned this huge day for myself. I was going to be productive, work out, go outside and garden, and just fill up my time.
But as I started the day, it dawned on me how little I take opportunities to truly rest. After an incredibly busy weekend, I decided to take a rest. From my responsibilities that I place on my self and from the things that I had created for myself to do. I sat down with a book, and just read the whole day.
When I sat down to do my bible readings in the evening, I received this bible verse from the Lord: “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29
In a way, it felt like it had been permission from God that I truly needed this day of rest and to stop myself from feeling guilty. It was the perfect time just to quiet my heart and mind, and spend time also with the Lord in prayer.
I know a lot of us struggle with this idea of rest. It feels like laziness, it feels like we aren’t being productive or that we wasted a whole day. But these days of taking time completely for you and relaxing are absolutely necessary! Give yourself the permission to take time to rest. Give yourself time in the day, and just rest in the Lord. Spend a few moments clearing your mind, and just relax.
We need to be set free from the guilty of taking care of ourselves, mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Give yourself time to rest and relax.
