Quality of our choices
"As you make your bed, so you must lie on it. And that will determine how well you will sleep."
I grew up hearing my mom say this but I never quite understood what she meant by it until I got older. As a child I always thought this saying referred to a physical bed, but now I know it was a metaphor for life.
The beauty of free will is that each day we get to choose. We get to choose when we wake up, what we will wear, what we will eat, what we will do, say, how we will act, where we will go, how much we will pray, how we will spend our time, who we will spend it with... The list goes on. Each of our days is really a series of choices that we need to make in order to get through the day.
The quality of these choices, though some may be small, all lead up to a bigger picture. Overtime, they shape our habits, our outlook on life, our work ethic, spiritual life, beliefs, morals, approach towards ourselves and others, how we carry ourselves, what our passions and hobbies are, and so much more. These day-to-day motions are all parts of our 'bed' and ultimately, they affect how well we live our lives.
And so, as we begin another day, I wanted to invite you all to think about how your bed will look like today. Though the choices we need to make each day are many, if we have the Lord as our compass it becomes much easier to make the right and wholesome choices that are good for both our body and soul. May the Lord help you navigate through this day (and every day) so that you may have a restful and happy 'sleep' tonight.
With love, Kasia
