As a young Catholic woman, I am growing concerned about the upcoming Pan-Amazonian Synod.
We do not know what will come of it, so we first and foremost must pray for all those involved.
Nonetheless, unrest settles in my heart as the days leading up to it have brought up evidence of discussions that can bring upon major changes in our Church; changes, that aren't what I believe our Lord desires.
What attracted me to the Catholic Church was the depth of beauty, truth, and goodness. In a world where it's hard to even figure out who you are, our Church has provided stability. The doctrinal teachings are universal and never change, and it provides a strong moral compass for its followers based on reason and Scriptural truth.
What I am seeing nowadays though, is an increasing amount of people (which sadly includes leaders within our Church), who seem to have a disdain for those very things.
I keep hearing that the 'Church must get with the times'. I have even heard this from religious sisters and priests.
My first thought is, really? I can hardly believe anyone would ever want that. The times are scary and if anything, I am encouraged to further embrace all that is 'against the times'. Why would we want to go further into the world when Christ has called us to be the very opposite?
The world has always been a strange place, but lately I have observed it to be getting even stranger (if that's even the right word to use here). There is this sense of increasing anger all around. The devil is not sleeping. He wants our Church. And believe me, he will stop at nothing to try and destroy it.
Ladies, this is the time we MUST pray, do penance, fast, and continually ask the Lord to help guide all those involved in making decisions for the Church we belong to and love. May this upcoming Synod bring about good fruits and keep the rotten ones at bay.
With 'Michaelmas' having had been celebrated this past Sunday, the prayer to St. Michael couldn't come at a better time. Let us pray together:
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.
