Keep your eyes on God!

One of my favourite narratives in the Bible is the story of creation in Genesis. The more I began to unpack the creation of the world, the creation and then fall of man, the more God continued to amaze me and teach me through His word.

We all know the sequence of events very well. God creates the world, the skies, waters, land, plants, animals, and then at the end He creates human beings. "In the image of God He created them, male and female He created them" (Genesis 1:27).

Everything was in perfect harmony at first. Notice how Adam and Eve didn't even question anything and lived in perfect union with God. Why? Because they knew who they were. They knew who they belonged too.

So what changes this? What makes them fall? Yes it is the lie of the serpent, but there is a small detail that we miss. It wasn't just the words of the serpent that made Eve question God's command regarding the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, and essentially God's love for them. What did Eve do when the serpent spoke to her? What do any of us do when someone approaches us to speak with us? We look at them.

Eve looked at the serpent. She looked and focused on the one in who's image she was NOT created in.

We notice this even in our own lives how easy it is to get lost when we take our eyes off of God. It is the same thing that happened to the Apostle Peter when he came out of the boat to walk on water...the minute he stopped looking at Christ he started to sink (Matthew 14:22-33).

Dear sisters, remember in who's image you are created in. You are made in the image of God. The only way we can understand what that means is by always keeping our sights on God, on the one in who's image we ARE created in.

The minute we look at something different, we start to falter like Eve did. We become confused and easily dismayed.

Keep your eyes on God!
