If an evil happens to us, that cannot come from God...but God does permit it.

"This is just God's will."

I hear that many times when certain events happen in our lives. Granted, yes there are many times when God does will something...but not always.

I find that many of us interchange something that is will by God vs. permissible by God.

Recently there was a terrible accident that happened not to far from where we live where a mom and her 3 daughters were instantly killed in a car crash by a reckless driver. While conversing with some people about it I overhead some question the reason for why this happened, and others would answer that "it was simply God's will."

Not everything that happens to us is willed by God. Let me explain this concept a bit...

We know that God is good, therefore nothing evil can come from Him. We read in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, "God is in no way, directly or indirectly, the cause of moral evil. He permits it, however, because he respects the freedom of his creatures and, mysteriously, knows how to derive good from it." (CCC #311).

God does will certain things, but those things are ALWAYS intrinsically good. If an evil happens to us, that cannot come from God...but God does permit it. He allows it to happen because He knows that there can be a greater good that can lead from this.

In the moment it is usually very hard to see how good can possibly come from a particular situation when there is so much hurt and pain that is present. It is in those moments that we need to turn to Him and walk with Him. Remind ourselves that at the end of the day, He holds everything together.

Give Him the opportunity to work in those moments, and those blessings, that good, will be revealed to you!

Walking Together,
