I ask God to love through me
Death has never felt as close to me as it has recently. Realizing that each life really does have an earthly end really shook me up. These feelings are hard to digest and so while they can lead to a prolonged state of hopeless they can also serve as a catalyzer of action; action that helps me focus on living a more loving life.
It's true that I "don't know what [tomorrow] will bring" (Psalm 27:1) and so if something is important to me, it's time to tend to it today.
If there are people in my life that I care about, I do what I can today to show them that I care. The way I show love may look different from relationship to relationship, but, as Dr. Gary Chapman says in his book 'The 5 Love Languages', the way in which I express love "is only limited to [my] imagination".
On my own, I will always fall short of loving myself and others, so I reach out to God and ask Him to love through me. I pray that He fills my heart up so that I can genuinely give to others without any expectations. When all is said and done, I want to look back and know that I loved as much as I could love; that I allowed God to spread His never-ending mercy and compassion through me as far as He wanted to.
What are some ways to show people that we care about them? Particularly in this pandemic, with social distancing, our creativity is put to the test! What makes you feel that others care?
