Cafeteria Catholic life

I had a conversation with a friend recently about the moment when I decided to take my faith seriously. I hadn't thought about that time in a while and it was hard for me to pinpoint one exact moment when this happened. Then again, after reflecting on it I realized I didn't have just one wake-up moment...I had at least 10! With my stubborn nature God knew that I would be hitting a few rock bottoms before I finally woke up and finally let Him take the wheel.

Later that day I was scrolling through my news feed and I stumbled upon a quote by St. Therese of Lisieux which said, "you cannot be half a saint, you must be a whole saint or no saint at all."

Oh for our gentle little flower she sure knows how to give a good reality check!

The beauty, but also the hard reality, of our faith is that it is an all or nothing reality. You can't just be half catholic just like you can't be half saint. You either are or you aren't, it's that simple.

This is also what I really admire about the our faith is that there is no grey area. It is very clear as to what is needed in order to become the saint we are called to be.

Growing up I remember going back and forth and living the "Cafeteria Catholic life," or as I like to call it, "the Catholic Lite version." I wanted to live out the faith, but not exactly everything. I wanted the benefits of the Catholic faith without all the effort and hard lifestyle changes.

If we claim that we are women of faith then we need to live that out in every aspect of our life. We can't say one thing and act another way. It is all or nothing.

Dear sisters, it's time we jump ALL IN!
