It was Father Tadeusz Kotlewski SJ, a polish Jesuit Priest and Psychotherapist, who shared this message during a talk on Self Acceptance. These words spoke so loudly to me, in the most gentle of ways. Accepting myself is not so much about “it is what it is” but about “it is what it is and IT IS BEAUTIFUL... I am beautiful”. I also loved that Fr Tadeusz described it as “discovering our own beauty”. It’s a creative journey, through Christ, in which I can begin to finally see myself for all that I am, rather than all that I lack.
Like many, if not all, of us, I have really struggled to accept me for me because I have measured my worth based on worldly standards and based on these measurements, I will never be enough. Mark Manson, author and blogger, also touched on this in one of his books. explaining that sometimes it is our measurement system that is the problem.
Although Mark Manson was not referring to Christ, we, as Christians, know and may have experienced first-hand that, if we measure our worth based on anything other than Christ, we add great heartache into our lives.
I am excited to continuously discover this beautiful woman that God has created, and to renew my relationship with her. I am even more excited to gradually see her beauty! Holy Spirit, I trust in Your works. Jesus, I love You.
“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” (Psalm 139: 14)
