Be Diligent and Preserver
That mountain seems so far. That hill seems so steep. Maybe I should just give up.
Or maybe...not. My sisters, the call to greatness is not an easy one. We are all sinners, imperfect yet God calls us to holiness each day. It's not an easy path, but it is what we were created for. This is the ultimate call.
Sometimes, it's easy to get discouraged by this as the journey. Rather than looking at how far we have come, we look at how much further we have to go.
The other day, I watched a movie on the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola, a man who was inspired by the lives of the Saints, later to become one himself. What really struck me was his complete surrender to the Lord; just like the disciples, he left everything behind him to follow God's call. It made me reflect on my own self. Would I be able to do that? And to that extent?
Comparing myself to St. Ignatius left me feeling as though I could never reach his level of holiness. But I also realize that just as God has created each of us uniquely in His image, He also has created a unique call to holiness for each of us.
The Lord is not looking for us to be Saints instantly and overnight. What the Lord looks for is for us to keep striving for holiness each day. To keep walking uphill, no matter how hard the journey may feel. To be diligent and persevere.
Each day we have the privilege of making a choice: the choice to either take one step up that mountain or to take a step away. And of the two, it's ALWAYS harder to take a step forward. Just looking at how much more we have to go is enough to discourage many.
But my sisters, God calls us to that path. That path of striving, virtue, and holiness. The path of greatness.
It is a path we are not alone on and ultimately, it is the path that will lead us to eternity. It is the whole point of our existence, really. Because of this, it is of utmost important that when we are faced with the choice each day, that we discipline ourselves enough to always choose perseverance.
Don't be afraid of the virtue of diligence. It is a key that will help you overcome many obstacles on the path towards heaven. And overtime, if you persevere, you might just find that each step will be easier to make.
